NHP International Women’s Day 7th March #breakthebias

On Monday 7 March 2022, North Halifax Partnership celebrated International Women’s Day at Forest Cottage in Ovenden and what an amazing day we’ve had!

After two years of Covid restrictions, the NHP came back with this vibrant event, celebrating International Women’s Day.

In the main hall we had a brilliant choice of informative stalls from local services, not forgetting our very own Community Organisers. At the sports hall, we had a unique opportunity to try archery and boxercise with Positive Impact Sports.

We received inspiring words from the exceptional women among us and a lovely bit of lunch with a lovely slice of cake on the side.

Many thanks to Karen Scanlon, Natalie Ratner and Rachel Swaby for putting a brilliant day together!

Organiser, Karen Scanlon shared:

54 women from the North Halifax area came together to celebrate each other’s achievements. There was a marketplace, with various stalls, offering useful information and activities to help improve women’s lives.

Some of the organisations included Healthy Minds Calderdale, The Calderdale Women’s Centre, The Faye Knowles Chapman Foundation, Calderdale Sexual Exploitation Team, West Yorkshire Police, Bluebird Care, Staying Well, The North Halifax Community Organisers, Calderdale Breast Screening, Calderdale Recycling Team, Illingworth Messenger and Lifechanges Women’s Support Group.

There was also The Pottery Cafe who provided a relaxing painting session. For those who wanted something a bit more upbeat, Positive Impact Sports provided Boxing and Archery, alongside nutritious, healthy smoothies.

Inspirational speakers delivered heart-warming talks about what has empowered them on their personal life journeys. This was followed by an afternoon tea which was enjoyed by everyone as conversation filled the room.

Some of the feedback included:

“There was so much information available for us women.”

“The speeches were a highlight.”

“10/10 – Excellent Event.”

“Inspirational Women and a good networking opportunity.”

“It helped me reflect of how well I have done personally in my life.”

“Loved the Pottery, so relaxing.”

“I had a feeling of humbleness after meeting so many wonderful women I am glad to be a woman and proud of my achievements.”

Overall, the day was a huge success filled with positivity and inspiration. North Halifax Partnership would like to say a huge thank you to the Community Champions at Morrisons Illingworth for donating sanitary wear so we could promote period poverty in North Halifax. We would also like to say thank you to all those that attended and contributed towards making the event a success.

We hope you all enjoyed it.
