The VSI Alliance is holding a half day course on Tuesday 16 April, 10:00am-1:00pm at the VAC Resource Centre, Hall Street, Halifax.

This half-day course is ideal for anyone new to the grant making process and will help you to understand the key points of finding and applying for small grants.

The training should help you to:

  • Recognise different types of funding and eligibility criteria
  • Use different tools to carry out a funding search
  • Identify the elements of an application
  • Write a simple project plan
  • Explain how systems and processes can help the ‘funding cycle’

Free Diabetes Course in Halifax

Do you have Type 2 diabetes and live in Halifax?

Voluntary Action Calderdale (VAC) are running an X-PERT programme for the South Asian Community working in partnership with Calderdale CCG to provide all the information you need to manage your diabetes. This 5 week course starts Wednesday 16 May at the Resource Centre, Hall St, HX1 5AY and will be held on the 4 subsequent Wednesdays.

There are separate sessions for women and men;

    • women 10:00am-12:30pm
    • men 1:30pm-4:00pm

You have a higher risk for diabetes if you:

  • are from certain black and minority ethnic (BAME) groups
  • have a family history of diabetes
  • have Impaired glucose regulation
  • carry excess body weight (especially around the waist)
  • have low activity levels (exercising less than 3 times a week)
  • eat a diet that contains too much refined carbohydrate and processed food
  • have high blood pressure (greater than or equal to 140/90 mmHg)
  • are older than 40 (although it is becoming more common in younger people)
  • developed diabetes during a previous pregnancy
  • gave birth to a baby weighing more than 9 pounds
  • have been diagnosed with the metabolic syndrome or polycystic ovarian syndrome

VAC (Voluntary Action Calderdale) invite you to attend the 2018 Annual General Meeting which is to be held at the Elsie Whiteley Innovation Centre on Wednesday 2 May, 4:00pm-6:00pm.

Devising Project Budgets for Funding Bids

Do you struggle with putting a budget together for your funding applications?

Voluntary Action Calderdale are offering a course to take place on Tuesday 5 December 9:30 – 12:30 at the VAC Resource Centre, Hall Street, Halifax HX1 5AY.

The aim of the session is to enable you to understand;

  • what is the purpose of  a budget
  • why organisations need a budget
  • who should be involved in the process
  • when the budget process should begin

You will learn how to;

  • plan and prepare an income and expenditure budget
  • prepare budgets for restricted and unrestricted funds
  • how to lay out a budget
  • manage the budget process

50% Off on Equality and Diversity Course at VAC

VAC will be holding a course on Equality and Diversity on Wednesday 13 December, 9:30am – 4:30pm at the VAC Resource Centre, Hall Street, HX1 5AY.

This session will help you to review and improve your performance for people with characteristics protected by the Equality Act 2010 and align your policies and procedures with the NHS Equality Delivery System (known as EDS2) to help deliver public services.

The one-day training course looks at:
1. Key definitions around equality and diversity including equality of process, equality of choice and equality of outcome
2. The Equality Act 2010 – the Protected Characteristics. The latest breaking news from the courts and tribunals covering service delivery and employment
3. Links to other laws such as the Care Act – brief outline
4. The Public-Sector Equality Duty – paying due regard to equality
5. Implementing the Duty with EDS2 – an audit framework for your policies and procedures including corporate governance, human resources, access to services, service user involvement AND partners/stakeholders
6. Signposting other sources of information and help

VAC Volunteer Open Morning

On Thursday 21 September at the VAC Resource Centre, Hall Street, HX1 5AY 9:30am – 12:30pm, VAC are running a drop in session where you can find out more about volunteering with VAC.

(VAC will also be at the Calderdale College Fresher’s Fair on Wednesday 13 September 10:00 – 13:00)

VAC have a number of volunteering opportunities.

Molly and Bill has developed significantly over the summer and the programme of activities in care homes has expanded. Volunteers have been undertaking a variety of roles and activities within the different care settings. There have been many positive stories of residents engaging in activities, such as a lady who is not able to communicate joining in a singing session.

Weekend Care has changed its name to Our Place and moved venue to Heath United Reform Church. They had a launch event this summer and are looking for new volunteers to join the team.
