The period from Easter to Summer has been extremely busy.  I have delivered a variety of courses… from Safeguarding to First Aid to Working with Childcare courses, targeted at those people interested in working with children, a bespoke course developed for safeguarding leaders in charities and other courses.  The variety of my course offerings is one of the things I really enjoy about my role.

VCSE Mental Health Awareness Training for Managers at the Elsie Whiteley Centre Halifax

VSI Alliance: VCSE Mental Health Awareness Training for Managers- One Day Course -Face-to-Face – 3rd November – Elsie Whiteley Centre (Halifax)
In a national survey, 50% of employers said they would like to do more to support staff wellbeing but don’t feel they have the right skills or training. This one-day course is delivered by a local organisation: Unmasked Mental Health. The day aims to provide managers with the knowledge, competence and confidence to identify mental health disorders within teams and to learn how to take appropriate early intervention. The face-to-face one-day course covers the awareness of the mind and body, what’s at the heart of mental health conditions and the soft skills to have great conversations about mental health with your team.Date and Time:

Putting the Equality Act into Action – Health Connections Course

Health connections logoThis one day workshop will help organisations to identify how to use key principles from the Equality Act 2010 to not only protect themselves from legal challenges but also to help them identify how to improve their service provision.

The workshop will cover:

  • The Evolution of UK Equality Legislation, The Equality Act 2010, obligation under the Act and protected characteristics as defined by the Act
  • Direct and indirect discrimination, harassment, victimisation and service delivery,  public functions and associations
  • Discrimination in relation to service and public functions, positive action and reasonable adjustments, general and public sector equality duties and equality impact assessments

DIY and Home Improvement Skills course

If you are looking to improve your DIY skills or gain those all important basic home renovation and maintenance skills then this course is for you. Available now, this course is designed for anyone who would like to tackle those small tasks around the home.

Plastering & tiling; painting and decorating; bricklaying & joinery

Teaching
Practical activities; hanging a door; plastering a wall; building a wall; hanging wallpaper; painting and paint techniques; putting up a shelf; tiling plus the use of basic hand and power tools.

Partnerships and Consortia Development – Health Connections Course

Health connections logoIncreased competition means that partnership work is a growing part of the Voluntary and Community Sector landscape and can be a positive way of becoming sustainable, reducing overheads, finding new ways to do things and competing in a challenging market.

The session will be Delivered by Voluntary Action Sheffield and provides an opportunity to explore some of the practical issues and decisions, such as:

Top tips for partnership working in practice

  • Forming a partnership
  • Managing relationships and decision making
  • Project delivery in partnership

Legal forms and options

  • Legal structure options for consortia and partnerships
  • Looking at an example of a collaboration/partnership agreement where there is no separate consortium body
  • Issues that may arise in partnership working: members and trustees’ conflicts of interest or loyalty, problems with sustainability and quality control, internal conflicts between members

The course will take place on Thursday 20 November 2014 from 9.30am to 4pm at Voluntary Action Calderdale, Hall St, Halifax, HX1 5AY
