Mixenden High Rise Flats Community Gardening Project

mixenden flatsNewground Together is an environmental charity that has recently joined the Together Housing Group. Deborah Ash – Project Officer covers Calderdale and beyond supporting community groups to set up and develop community gardening projects with an emphasis on growing fruit and vegetables organically and plants  that are beneficial to wildlife.

Deborah is currently working in Mixenden on Wednesdays delivering training and support with practical gardening tasks.

Topics will include:

  • 1.15pm – 2.00pm – What employers are looking for from a job application

Light refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Pennine Housing, Sanctuary Housing and other members of the Together Housing Group along with the residents association have teamed up to find out what really matters to you in your neighbourhood.

On 2, 9 and 16 April there will be door-knocking sessions on Furness estate. What makes this community such a great one to live in and what can be to done to help it improve.

Then on Friday 25 April there will be a community day between 10am – 3pm. Beginning with an estate clean up in the morning, residents are invited to get involved with a spring clean. Bring out any bulky unwanted items for a one off pick up and removal.

In the afternoon there will be a number of activities available for kids and young adults to enjoy, including football and rugby coaching sessions from Huddersfield Town FC and Halifax RLFC. The Dance Mill will be giving FREE lessons in Zumba and street dance.

There will also be raffles throughout the day with prizes kindly donated by Morrisons Supermarket.

Aged 17 – 24 and sick of being skint?

The SOBS (Sick of Being Skint) Road Show is going to be at Mixenden Parents Resource Centre on Wednesday 22 May and Thursday 23 May, 1-30pm – 3.30pm

SOBS is a Together Housing project aimed at improving financial confidence in people under the age of 24. They offer practical money advice and budgeting workshops (e.g. cooking on a budget; furnishing a flat).

Why not drop in and meet the team? There will also be a selection of food try.
