The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and District Branch are a self-funding branch of the National RSPCA, responsible for raising money locally to support our animal welfare work.  Our main aim is to rehabilitate unwanted, abandoned and abused animals and find them loving, permanent homes. The local rehoming centre relies on public donations and the generosity of its local community to keep the doors of their animal centre open. The branch care for cats, dogs and small animals and have successfully rehomed 37 dogs, 81 cats and 27 small animals so far this year.

From Flavourfest 2022 (June 26-27th)

We visited Flavourfest 2022 at the Inspire Centre of Calderdale College and were impressed by the displays brought to us by local businesses!

The weather was suitably accommodating for the several local traders, businesses, craftspeople and food makers of Calderdale. There was a variety of stalls of foods from many corners of the world, hand crafted products, business startups as well as established organisations.

Anila and Alison at the Outback stall

We said hello to Anila and Alison who were at the Outback Stall, showcasing some of their own honeycomb, elderberry cordial, preserves and salad, among other things.

These were all produced by things grown at the Outback at Jubilee Children’s centre. The ladies briefly spoke about intercepting unspoiled food that would have otherwise been wasted to landfill and about their bee keeping project, for which they plan an open day, stay tuned for more info!

And a personal thanks from the North and East blog, for saying that you read us, we hope to keep informing you!

More about the Outback Community Kitchen & Garden

We made another stop at JFood FitBox, an initiative to produce tasty, sustainable, responsibly sourced healthy meals.

There was a broad selection of ingeniously artistically presented food, dairy free alternatives and vegetarian options. A personal favourite, the box in which the food was packed was made out of paper!

Flavourfest was an impressive, vibrant event that gave us a unique  opportunity  to sample different cuisines, learn about what is  happening  around us and admire the creativity of local traders. Roll on Flavourfest 2023? We hope so!
