Fancy a Walk a Cuppa and a Chat? Next August 12th at Shelf Hall Park

The Shelf Wellbeing Community Group are meeting every second Friday of each month for a casual walk around Shelf, followed by a brew at the Bottomley’s Arms across the park.

Join us this Friday August 12th at 10am at the entrance gates of Shelf Hall Park (near the village hall).

If the weather isn’t suitable for a walk, the group will still meet for coffee and tea at the Bottomley’s Arms at 11am across from the park.

Shelf Village Hall Community Association Business Plan a brief overview

Shelf Village Hall Community Association

Business Plan a brief overview

Our Business Plan is far too long to read [we have read it so many times already]
so here is a brief outline of the proposal :

The Committee would take on a long-term lease – a Community Asset Transfer, from Calderdale Council to allow us to have total control over the Village Hall.

We would have to refurbish many areas of the Hall – including a new kitchen, painting, and decorating almost everywhere.

New ceiling tiles and some lighting. Repair of the entry doors and many external features – the list is long. But once essential repairs and upgrades are complete, we would then continue to work on the premises over the next 3 years or more.

We cannot run the library – the cost was so high – £30k per quarter – which provided books, internet access, and the other associated library functions. Instead, we will enable hire of the library space, the Auditorium and the small hall with the kitchen made available for own catering.

As we start to prosper, we would really like to bring back the library function but in the meantime would offer a book swap or exchange, where people can bring their books for exchange.

We plan on running a community café using volunteers and we will also have a Bar so we can run evening functions and parties.

We have a long list of people who used to use the Village Hall and would still like to hire the venue for many events. We offered some session of Tai Chi and Seated Pilates before Covid closed the venue and we will bring these and more back to the Hall.

We have a plan to offer themed nights [80’s nights, Northern Soul and Motown, quiz and race nights along with tribute bands.

Makers markets, wedding and Christmas fayres, craft sessions and markets – the list is endless. But all this depends on the Council allowing us to move forward with the lease. If they accept our plans, we can start lease negotiations and will be back in touch. The negotiations may be lengthy (or not as the case may be) so enquiries are welcome but we can’t give a date when the venue will be
available for hire. Once we are moving forward, we will need you, the local residents and businesses to help us with the venue.

If you would like to be part of the SVHCA team please do get in touch and I will add you to our volunteer list.
