Operation Hedgeson Ovenden bike information appeal

This is a joint Police and partner agencies operation aimed at tackling the continuous problem of theft of motor bikes and bikes being ridden on our parks and open spaces.

As you can see a mobility scooter and off road bike were recently recovered, several arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

You can play a big part in the operation by reporting nuisance bikes in your area to the police via 101, record any sightings including times and dates, locations and any description of rider and motor bike.

Your help is very much appreciated and will go a long way to bringing an end to this neighbourhood problem.

Ovenden Junior Wardens meet The SCG Partnership

The newly formed Junior Wardens at Dean Field Community Primary School had the opportunity to meet the Safer Cleaner Greener Partnership on Wednesday 13 October 2021

A Q&A session was held with SCG partners including the CMBC Recycling Team, West Yorkshire Police, Together Housing, Ward Councillors and The North Halifax Partnership who spoke to the Junior Wardens  to give them an insight of their day to day job roles and discussed how the Junior Wardens can work in partnership with them and be involved in small scale activities throughout the year to help make a difference to their local community.

Karen Scanlon said

“The Junior warden scheme is a team of children and young people who are dedicated to helping clean their environment and assist in helping to improve their community’s overall quality of life.”

“As a team we will work to identify environmental and safety problems within our area and report them. Encourage friends, family and our community to look after the environment and the safety of others and be proud of where we live and help make our neighbourhood a better place to live.”

The Junior Warden scheme has been set up again at Dean Field Community Primary School to look at tackling issues within the Ovenden community so be sure to keep an eye out for any future work being done.

Volunteers resume works at Shroggs Park

With the help of local volunteers, the Friends of Shroggs Park Group have started to pick up where they left off pre-covid with a number of small scaled clean up and maintenance activities in the park which have taken place fortnightly.

Friends of Shroggs Park and community volunteers have been working in small groups over the last month alongside employees from CMBC Parks Department to carry out works in order to keep the park in a pleasant state for those who use it.

The first clean up effort resulted in a dozen bin liners of general litter being removed from the parks grounds with the whole park, including the woodland walk being covered on that occasion.

The following work that took place was focused on cutting back and neatening up the edges of the walkways in the vicinity of the maze which saw a fair amount of turf loaded into the back of a CMBC Vehicle.

The group would like to extend a thank you to CMBC for the support and providing the vehicles to remove the waste at the end of the clean ups.

These activities are currently ongoing with the next one taking place on Monday 24th August 2020 – 10am to 12noon, meeting by the Maze in the park.

If you would like to get involved in these efforts or require further information, contact Peter Robinson on 07599 524471 or by email to peterrobinson936@yahoo.co.uk. You can also email Dan Marham, Ward Link Worker for the North Halifax Partnership at Daniel.Marham@Calderdale.gov.uk if you would like to get involved.
