North Halifax Star 2017: Young People of the Year – WINNER ANNOUNCED!

WINNER: Jorden Scanlon

Jorden Scanlon is a highly committed young man who is happy to focus on making North Halifax a better place and to ensure that the young people in the area have the right tools for a better future.

He gives up his time to ensure there are activities and opportunities for young people in the area and is now a familiar face within Project_Twelve:31.

Jorden sees no barriers in getting involved with the young people and enjoys being a part of the activities to keep young people busy and off the streets whether that’s playing football or out Geocaching he is always happy to play an active role.

For such a young lad he is happy to make a big difference to the local area and with him being this committed at just 18 years old, the future looks exceptionally bright for him.

Dan, Morgan, VinnyWith a strengthened back line, some great goalkeeping from Trav Allinson and more creativity added in the middle of the park it wasn’t long before Phoenix gained a foothold in what became a closely contested match.

There were some impressive debut’s made by new signings Vinny Finelli, Riley Farrar, Jordan Comer and Morgan Scott who’s football talents were noticed at Project_Twelve:31.

Dan Marham, player of 2 years and former captain said:

“It’s great to play a part in such an event and to know we still have the support of the West Yorkshire Fire Service and other services is brilliant.

We have some young lads coming through who really did themselves proud and the team seems to have that togetherness that we somewhat lacked in the past.

With Branny (Brandon Wilkinson) taking over as captain and Paddy Cooling taking on management for the new season I’m sure I’m not the only one with a higher level of optimism moving forward.”

Rayner and DomGoals from Brandon Wilkinson(3), Tommy Wade(1) and Ash Scully(2) were enough to see a comeback and a 6 – 4 win for Phoenix who lifted the trophy for a second time.

Karen Scanlon chair of Ovenden Phoenix said:

“It’s always good fun to play West Yorkshire Fire service as it marks the beginning of the season within the Halifax Sunday League and gives the team the opportunity to prepare for the coming 2016/17 season plus the added bonus of reclaiming the trophy!”

Adam Rayner was awarded man of the match for Ovenden Phoenix whilst Dom Furby was awarded Man of the match for West Yorkshire Fire Service.
