Children’s Meditation Course at The Outback Community Garden August 14th

Children’s Meditation Course at The Outback Community Garden on Sunday 14th August

A one-day course in Anapana Meditation for 8 – 15 year olds is coming up at The Outback Community Garden during the summer holidays.

Meditation can help improve focus and concentration, help with making good decisions, manage stress and emotions and provide a tool for life to help live more happily and peacefully. As well as learning to meditate, there will be fun and creative nature-based activities and games in the lovely environment of the Outback garden and education space.

The Outback Community Kitchen and Garden is situated behind the Jubilee Children’s Centre at Lightowler Rd, Halifax HX1 5NB.

The course will run from 9.30am – 4pm.

Booking is essential and to register a child for the course, you can apply on the UK course schedule under ‘Children and Teenagers’ courses: Vipassana Meditation Course (dhamma.org)

There is no fee for the sessions but donations are welcome.

For any enquiries, please contact: kate.edwards@dhamma.org

From Flavourfest 2022 (June 26-27th)

We visited Flavourfest 2022 at the Inspire Centre of Calderdale College and were impressed by the displays brought to us by local businesses!

The weather was suitably accommodating for the several local traders, businesses, craftspeople and food makers of Calderdale. There was a variety of stalls of foods from many corners of the world, hand crafted products, business startups as well as established organisations.

Anila and Alison at the Outback stall

We said hello to Anila and Alison who were at the Outback Stall, showcasing some of their own honeycomb, elderberry cordial, preserves and salad, among other things.

These were all produced by things grown at the Outback at Jubilee Children’s centre. The ladies briefly spoke about intercepting unspoiled food that would have otherwise been wasted to landfill and about their bee keeping project, for which they plan an open day, stay tuned for more info!

And a personal thanks from the North and East blog, for saying that you read us, we hope to keep informing you!

More about the Outback Community Kitchen & Garden

We made another stop at JFood FitBox, an initiative to produce tasty, sustainable, responsibly sourced healthy meals.

There was a broad selection of ingeniously artistically presented food, dairy free alternatives and vegetarian options. A personal favourite, the box in which the food was packed was made out of paper!

Flavourfest was an impressive, vibrant event that gave us a unique  opportunity  to sample different cuisines, learn about what is  happening  around us and admire the creativity of local traders. Roll on Flavourfest 2023? We hope so!
