Students from Leeds and Wakefield colleges studying public services also got involved with the clean up and accompanied West Yorkshire Fire Service as part of their work experience.

Arson information leaflets were handed out in the area to make residents aware of the risks of arson when bulky waste is left in close proximity to their properties as well as information on how any bulky waste can be removed.

Men United enjoy an active morning at Ovenden Park

The Men United at Ovenden Park group is thriving once again with 15 members of the group getting together this morning to enjoy a variety of activities including Walking Football, Indoor golf and Kurling.

The group really enjoyed the Walking Football which saw two teams of three go head to head in a very close and competitive game, won in the late stages following a well placed goal from Grayham Smith.

There were close encounters elsewhere as the remaining members took part in indoor golf and indoor kurling with every member getting involved in at least one of the activities.

There are now plans in place for a number of guest speakers and trips out over the coming months including a guided tour of Bankfield Museum in the near future which you too could be part of.

What do you do on Wednesday mornings? Get up at the usual time, stroll downstairs, have a bite to eat, switch the television on…. every week, just like every other day?

For just £2 per session (First one FREE!) you can be part of this fantastic group for older men and meet like minded people, make new friends and enjoy group discussions over a hot drink and a biscuit… and even the occasional bacon sandwich!

The group meets every Wednesday from 10am to 12noon at Halifax RUFC, Ovenden Park, Keighley Road, Halifax, HX2 8AR

If you would like more details, please ring either Joe 01422 246980, or Dennis on 01422 248734 or email daniel.marham@calderdale.gov.uk who will be more than happy to tell you all about the group.
