Project_Twelve:31 Learn More About LGBTQ+

Well before the Happy Valley Pride Festival in Hebden Bridge – July 22-28 2019, Project_Twelve:31 had a fantastic session at Illingworth Methodist Church on Thursday 6 June learning more about LGBTQ+.

If you are girl aged between 12 and 18 years of age and you live in the North Halifax area and are looking for something different and exciting to do in 2019 then join Project_Twelve:31 on Thursday evenings. Call 0300 555 0266 and ask for Karen or email Karen.Scanlon@calderdale.gov.uk to find out more.

Happy Valley Pride all started in response to a piece of homophobic graffiti in the Hebden Bridge Town Centre during 2016, now it’s a annual festival bringing people together. It was a stark reminder that there’s still work to be done – a casual phrase, that has been knocking around school playgrounds for decades, it was none-the-less shocking, simply because it is still in use in a seemingly, tolerant and open-minded community.

The mission statement outlining the fundamental purpose of the organisation reads

“To celebrate LGBTQ life in Hebden Bridge and surrounding areas. Promoting equality and diversity to eradicate discrimination, based on sexual orientation and gender identity, through education and engagement.”

Simple Reflections Photography Group at Illingworth Moor Methodist Church

There is now a photography group at Illingworth Moor Methodist Church where, once a month on a Wednesday, they have a theme, take pictures on that theme then share those photos.

The Group is called ‘Simple Reflections Photography’ and they have a Facebook page. If you like taking photos, then why not go along? The next meeting is on Wednesday 9 June, 10:00am.

Next month on Wednesday 17 July, 10:00am they will be going out together to take some photos and then will meet to see what each person has taken.

Taking photos and looking intentionally at what we take gives us a different perspective. We may see things that we have never noticed before. For instance, have you seen the Elephants in Halifax Town Centre? If you look up at the building where McDonalds is, you will see some elephants.

There is always a different perspective to life to be seen, and things that may seem obvious that are right in front of us may be missed.
