A New Marking Shelter Now Stands in pride of place at Holmfield Bowling Club, Beechwood Park.
The project was funded by the National Lottery to enable the collaboration between young and old.
Young people on the level 2/3 Construction course at Calderdalde College worked in partnership with the club and North Halifax Partnership to design, build and deliver a sustainable all-weather shelter that will enable the members at the bowling club to have shelter while playing crown green bowls at the club.
The project has taken nine months from the initial first meeting with the college. Young people on the construction course, who have taken on board all the needs of the bowling community, created the design, carried out the planning and sourced all the materials.
The official opening of the shelter was held on Friday, 8th April. A range of people came together to celebrate the success of the shelter, including the bowling club and members of the community.
Jack, Chair of the Bowling Club, thanked everyone for attending, as well as thanking the collage for their work and said that it will make all weather bowling much more enjoyable.
Craig, from Calderdale College, said it’s been a fantastic opportunity for the young people to be able to start on a project and see it finished , while giving them valuable hands on experience within the community.
Declan, from Calderdale College, said “It’s been really good! I’ve really enjoyed it learning on-site skills.”
Karen Scanlon, from North Halifax Partnership, said “It’s been a challenging but rewarding project. It’s been a fantastic opportunity for the young people to be involved, to listen and take on board the suggestions and ideas of the bowlers and create something that will benefit the club.”
Marcia, from Holmfield Bowling Club, said “The club was very pleased with the work and the collage have done a fantastic job. Thank you to Dale, Craig and the young people from Calderdale Collage.”
