To celebrate our three amazing Marathon walkers and to give you a taste of our Walks for Wellbeing here at Healthy Minds, we are inviting our wonderful community to come for a walk with us!

Sunday 3rd October (Marathon day!) 10am from Mytholmroyd. Please contact cath@healthymindscalderdale.co.uk to join the walk and get meeting instructions.

ENTRIES OPEN: Thought bubble mascot name competition!

Is it a bird.. is it a plane.. no, its our very own Healthy Minds thought-bubble mascot, soon to be modelled by our very own volunteer Pat Dale this weekend. 💭

BUT we need your help… our new mascot is in need of a name! Send us your suggestions and we will reveal the winning name on the big day this Sunday.

Watch out for the mascot making its debut across Calderdale this weekend, and if you spot it, catch a snap and tag us on social media @healthymindscalderdale and use the hashtag #TeamHealthyMinds

We will be at Woolshops signing ribbons with our names and well wishes to add to our garden archway finish line.

Healthy Minds ‘Anger Management’ Workshop

Do you struggle with anger? Find it difficult to assert your feelings and needs in the right way? The ‘Anger Management’ workshop explores ways you can identify triggers and practise calming techniques.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday 28 February, 12:30 – 2:30 at the new Health Minds premises at 1 King Street, Halifax HX1 1SR.

Well Aware: 6 Week Evening Course

Well Aware is a free 6 week recovery course starting Tuesday 4 July 5:45 pm to 8:15 pm at the offices of Voluntary Action Calderdale on Hall Street Halifax HX1 5AY.

The course is delivered by workers and volunteers who have experienced mental distress a will help participants identify, challenge and change unhelpful thinking, learn new coping strategies and improve resilience through reflective and engaging exercises.

Healthy Minds Forum – next meeting 21 June

What’s the future for the Forum?

The Forum began in January 2013, as a new incarnation of the MPower service user group that had previously run for several years. Since then, the Forum has been integral in influencing the development of Healthy Minds Calderdale’s service provision as well as taking on national mental health concerns at a local level.

The Forum has tackled issues such as;
• Restraint policy and procedures in mental health
• Cutbacks in Art and Psychotherapy provision
• Development of a local crisis care SafeSpace

Healthy Minds ‘Head Space’ course

Do you want to improve how you’re feeling in a fun, friendly and relaxed atmosphere?

– Then the NEW course –

Head Space

might be just what you’re looking for!

Healthy Minds is a small local mental health charity. We understand the problems people face on day to day basis and offer a place where you can get support to manage life’s ups and downs. The course is facilitated by workers and volunteers who have had their own lived experience of mental distress.

The 3 week course will run for 2 hours per week and will cover topics such as

  • Dealing with stress
  • Improving confidence and self esteem
  • Moving forward – goals and aims
  • Getting what you need and taking control

Head Space will be running at Orange Box (next to the Piece Hall) on Tuesdays 6, 13 and 20 June between 12:30 and 2:30 pm.

Well Aware: 6 Week Evening Course

Voluntary Action Calderdale are running a Well Aware recovery course at their offices at Hall Street, Halifax starting Tuesday 4th July 2017  5.45pm – 20.15pm

Well Aware is a recovery course developed and delivered by workers and volunteers with lived experience of mental distress.

The course will help participants identify, challenge and change unhelpful thinking, learn new coping strategies, improve resilience through reflective & engaging exercises.

All sessions will be held in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space.

In the six weeks we will look at a range of topics including:-

  • What recovery in mental health means to me
  • Understanding beliefs and values
  • Reflecting on and identifying strengths and key learning points
  • Exploring emotions, beliefs and thoughts
  • The locus of control and practical strategies
  • sing reflection as a tool to develop self awareness and understanding

Anyone wishing to come on the course should contact Recovery and Support Team at Healthy Minds to arrange an informal chat.

Mental Health Awareness Week Event

During Mental Health Awareness Week 2017 (8th-12th May), Tesco Superstore on Haugh Shaw Road, Halifax, will be hosting an event over three days on the Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. The event will enable customers and colleagues to access information and resources, in order to encourage better mental health in our community.

Local mental health organisations involved include Healthy Minds, Staying Well,  Insight Healthcare, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies, and Andy’s Man Club.

Customers are invited to come and have an informal chat with the representatives of the various organisations to find out what support is available locally and to discover what they can do to improve mental health for themselves, for family members or friends.
