New Walking Group in Shelf every Thursday starting 9th June

Fancy a walk, a cuppa and a chat? Why not join The Shelf Wellbeing Community and their new walking group that starts Thursday June 9th?

Meeting at Shelf Park at 10am, the group will meet at the entrance of Shelf Park and walk around the park for a while, having a friendly chat then finish at Shelf Health Centre for a brew and maybe some biscuits!

Health activities with CREW in Ovenden and Illingworth

CREW is a local registered charity which aims to keep Calderdale fit and healthy. Get involved in a number of Health Walks taking place throughout February.

  • From Keighley Road Surgery – 8 and 22 February at 1pm
  • From Beechwood Medical Centre – 1, 15 and 29 February at 1pm

You can also get involved in exercise classes at Forest Cottage Community Centre
Every Tuesday and Thursday at 9.45am.

Walk it together – Ovenden Health Walk

Meet Mike Barnett outside Beechwood Medical Centre, Keighley Road, Ovenden at 1pm for a walk around Ovenden.

Routes vary depending on the ability of those taking part but will be between 1 and 4 miles long and will often visit Beechwood Park and Shroggs Park.

Some routes are accessible with pushchairs and wheelchairs – call the leader to check before attending.

  • Easy walk on level paths
  • Bus available to near starting point
  • Sorry, no dogs with the exception of guide or hearing dogs
  • Walk – please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.

Get active and enjoy fun guided walks this Summer

The guided walks programme includes everything from health walks, longer more challenging walks and family walks as well as some fun activities along the way.

Everyone benefits from the outdoors and there is something for everyone whether you want to:

  • improve your health and fitness
  • learn about local woods, trees, plants and other countryside features
  • meander through historic villages
  • or simply enjoy breathtaking views and scenery throughout Calderdale

From July to August there will be a number of guided walks taking place and further information on each walk can be found on the links below:

walking for healthEasy Health Walks will be held on a weekly basis at 10.45am which will last approximately 30 minutes.

To get involved in one of the walks, please meet outside Illingworth Moor Methodist Church prior to starting and join in on the  stroll before finishing off back at the church where anybody who wishes to do so can stay around for refreshments and a chat.
