Halifax Heritage Festival 2018

The 2018 Halifax Heritage Festival is taking place between Saturday 18 August and Sunday 16 September across the town centre, local villages, and local market towns.

Coordinated by Halifax Business Improvement district (B.I.D) approx 20 heritage sites are hosting events and activities during the festival with over 60 walks, talks, tours, viewings and exhibitions taking place.

Most events are free of charge to attend, a limited few have a small cost or donation requirement.

You can expect family activities, children’s events, evening talks and lunch time walks, with historical lectures, ghostly tales, hidden gems, and uncovered tombs being included in the Festival.

Running alongside the already renowned Heritage Open Days, the Halifax Heritage Festival offers many unique events taking place, there’s something for all ages.

For the first time this year, the festival is extending beyond the original long weekend, giving you even more opportunity to get involved in heritage events!

FREE Guided Tour – Halifax Heritage Festival: Lister Lane to the Gibbet

On Wednesday 1 August, 10:30am-12:30pm, David Glover will give a FREE guided tour – Park Heritage Walk 1, Lister Lane – The Gibbet.

Meet at Lister Lane Cemetery, Halifax HX1 5LF for the tour starting at 10:30am.

The walk will take in views of Crossley House, and travel through People’s Park, the remains of the Halifax work house, West Hill Model Village, The Hanson Lane bomb site, the Almhouses, finishing at the world famous Gibbet.

This walk is suitable for most abilities, please wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the weather. The walk will take approx 2 hours.

Friday 28 October – Starts at 2pm with doors open at 1.30pm
King Cross Library – FREE stories from local residents who describe life in Park ward from
1940s to 1970s.

Thursday 8 September to Sunday 11 September

Most events are FREE of charge to attend, a limited few have a small cost or donation requirement, with nothing costing more than £5 per person.

Visitors can expect family activities, children’s events, evening talks and lunch time walks, with historical lectures, ghostly tales, hidden gems, and uncovered tombs being included in the weekend.

Running alongside the already renowned Heritage Open Days, the Halifax Heritage Festival offers many unique events taking place, there’s something for all ages.

FREE Event – Great War Family History Day at Bankfield Museum

The Halifax Great War Heritage Society will be hosting a Family History Day and will be in the For King and Country gallery at Bankfield Museum to meet visitors who would like to find out about their ancestors’ involvement in the Great War.
