The event, kindly sponsored by Huddersfield BID, starts at 2pm setting off from Market Avenue Shopping Arcade (just off New Street) and takes in various stops around the Town Centre. The walk is free to take part in, but participants are encouraged to raise sponsorship for the local RSPCA Animal Centre.

All Zombie Walkies walkers will receive a free goody bag and free human and dog treats along the route.

But the fun doesn’t stop there, the Lawrence Batley Theatre has kindly offered their courtyard as a party space for all those looking for some Halloween fun! Whether you take part in the Zombie Walkies or not, the party is open to all from 2pm and includes games, music, stalls, and karaoke!

All funds raised go towards the important animal rehabilitation, care and rehoming work of the local, independently funded RSPCA Centre.

Lauren Moore, Fundraising Manager said: “Zombie Walkies is a really fun way to celebrate Halloween and we’re excited to see the spooktastic walkers take part in this year’s event. We’d like to thank all the local businesses who are offering their premises as a ghoulicious pit stop and we hope the community will support them as they are supporting us by having for a bite to eat or drink before the event starts.

We’ve added an extra twist this year with a party at the Lawrence Batley Theatre where we’ll also be giving out prizes for the best dressed on the day, so let’s see how creative our community can be!’’

Walk with Lorraine for Yorkshire Air Ambulance on September 4th!

Loraine Greenwood was hit by a bus in Halifax town centre on January 2020. She was airlifted to Leeds with the help of Yorkshire Air Ambulance, where she received life saving treatment.

To thank Yorkshire Air Ambulance, who had landed into the Piece Hall in order to airlift her, Lorraine is organising a fundraising walk in their aid for her 80th birthday.

This walk is open to the public and you are invited to take part!

Set to go on Saturday the 4th of September, this 8 mile walk will begin from St Matthew’s Church in Northowram.

Event organisers are hoping to sell 100 tickets to members of the public.

Tickets for the walk cost £10 for adults, £5 for under 16s and £5 per dog. Included in the tickets are pie and peas at the church afterwards. The pie and pea meal can be pre-ordered for those not taking part on the walk for £5.

Closing date for the walk and pie and peas is 28th August 2021 and no further entries will be permitted on the day.

There will also be an opportunity to meet Yorkshire Air Ambulance fundraisers at the walk to ask questions about the charity and learn all about their lifesaving work in the Halifax area.

It costs £12,000 a day to keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulances maintained and in the air and the money raised will help greatly towards the vital funding of our service.”

Speaking of the incident, Loraine said: “I could have lost my leg or my life. I cannot thank the emergency services, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the doctors and nurses at the hospital enough for everything they have done for me. I’m so grateful that I have a life and I’ll do the best I can with it.”

Event organiser Linda McCormick, said: “Yorkshire Air Ambulance is such an important local charity, and they need all the support they can get to keep them flying across the region and saving lives. We’re looking forward to celebrating Loraine’s 80th birthday and raising vital funds for such a worthwhile cause.”
