Calderdale children to feature in a video by the Department for Education

Calderdale Council and the Community Foundation for Calderdale have supported organisations to run Healthy Holiday schemes during the school holidays that provide lots of different activities for children to try and also offer healthy meals and snacks too.

During the  December school holidays, children in Calderdale have been having so much fun trying new activities such as street surfing, canoeing, and learning how to build fires safely that they haven’t had the opportunity to try before, that it has got the attention of the Department for Education who fund the programme and they have made a video about it.

Steve Duncan, CEO of the Community Foundation for Calderdale said: “The people running these schemes work had to make sure that the activities are fun and engaging and it’s great that young people are improving their confidence and life skills too. We know that we like to have fun in Calderdale, and we’re pleased that our community stands out nationally for so many people enjoying taking part in the scheme.”

Cllr Tim Swift, Calderdale Council’s Leader, added:

“We’re delighted with the success of the Healthy Holidays schemes in Calderdale, thanks to amazing teamwork from organisations across the borough and the support of local families. The summer programme alone provided 15,000 free activities in 43 venues. Once again, it’s great to see the joy that the winter scheme activities are bringing to children and young people, and now the whole country can also see the difference it’s making to so many families. These new experiences could open up a range of opportunities for young people in the future.”

Healthy Holidays Calderdale Winter programme Launch

The Healthy Holidays Calderdale Winter programme has been launched. This programme aims to provide free holiday schemes for children on free school meals over the December school holidays.

DfE have provided funds for a Winter programme of Healthy Holidays Calderdale during the school Christmas holidays: Saturday 18th December – Thursday 30th December 2021.

Please click here to apply: https://ukcf.secure.force.com/forms/Generalover1500/HealthyHolidaysCalderdale and please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any queries.

There will be a suite of supporting documents available on the CFFC website shortly.

The Government’s Holiday Activity & Food Programme does not provide funding for half terms. Calderdale Council and Community Foundation for Calderdale have joined forces to support holiday schemes for the forthcoming October half term in areas of highest deprivation. This is because we know parents and children in the borough enjoyed and felt supported by the Summer holiday clubs. The October half term programme is on a smaller scale and is funded by Calderdale’s Never Hungry Again campaign.

Parents can visit CFFC – October Holidays to find a holiday scheme in their area between 25th-29th October.

Join the fun this summer and enjoy a Healthy Holiday!

If your child is eligible for free school meals through qualifying benefits, they may be able to access a fully funded holiday place during the school holidays this summer.

Calderdale Healthy Holidays programme provides enriching activities, delicious nutritious meals and a chance for young people to meet new friends in a safe & fun environment, during the school holidays!

Please discuss needs of your child with providers.
