Scams Awareness Campaign 10-29 June 2019

Scams Awareness is a yearly campaign by Citizens Advice which aims to create a network of confident, alert consumers who know what to do when they see a scam. This year’s campaign will take place over two weeks, from the 10th-23rd June.

Whether you’re an individual consumer looking to protect yourself and your family from scams, or an organisation or group representing consumers, your efforts during the campaign are important.

Help CAB to spread the message that scams are crimes that can happen to anyone and we don’t need to be embarrassed if we fall victim to them.

Have you considered reviewing your energy supplier?

As the temperature plummets and the initial cold weather starts to become a long term reality, it may be time to consider reviewing your energy supplier.

Citizens Advice Calderdale has an Energy Champion ready to support you with this process and want everyone in Calderdale to be on the cheapest energy tariff and to have a warm home and keep healthy this winter.

What can we do?
Citizens Advice will train all your volunteers and front line workers on how to use comparison websites and give them the tips of the trade to saving their clients money.

We also take referrals for clients who need us to help them get some cheaper options for their utilities. This can be done over the phone.

National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2015

To coincide with National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2015, Calderdale Hate Crime Partnership is working with partners including Calderdale Council, Calderdale Police, Pennine Housing 2000, Calderdale Citizens Advice Bureau, Calderdale College, Victim Support West Yorkshire, Brunswick Centre and partners to supporting activities across the borough.

The week runs from Saturday 10 October to Saturday 17 October 2015.

The Partnership will be raising awareness of hate crime reporting and what individuals can do should they experience or witness anyone experiencing hate crime.

In the Police and Crime Plan 2013 – 18, the Police Crime Commissioner has committed to tackling hate crime and provide support for victims. In Calderdale, we work very closely with partners to ensure that appropriate support in made available to victims suffering from any elements of hate crime.

This year’s campaign is based on, “Hate Hurts. Report it, Sort it, say No to Hate Crime”.

To support the activities during the week, information will be available from Pennine Housing 2000 offices, Calderdale Citizen’s Advice Bureau offices, Calderdale College, Customer First Horton Street, Brunswick Centre, Halifax Central Initiative and Ovenden Mixenden Initiative. We are also working with community organisations in sending out a clear message that hate crimes will not be tolerated in the borough.

How do I report a hate crime incident?

  • Always call 999 in an emergency where there is danger to life or crime is in progress
  • Call 101 for non-emergencies
  • If you are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired you can use textphone 18001 101 or mobile text phone 07786 200 200
  • Visit your local police station
  • Use the service of the independent Hate Incident Reporting Centre (full list available of Calderdale Council website or West Yorkshire Police website)
  • Report non-emergency hate incidents online using the online reporting form – www.westyorkshire.police.uk/hatecrime
  • Speak to the Calderdale Councils Cohesion and Equality Officer on 01422 392869 or contact by email at sail.suleman@calderdale.gov.uk
