Dress Down Day Supporting Calderdale SmartMove

On Friday 15 February, the day after Valentine’s Day, 11 schools from around the borough will be taking part in a dress down day Smartmove are calling ‘Share Some Love’. They would love it if businesses and individuals around Calderdale would join in.

The aim of the initiative is to raise the awareness of the acute issue of homelessness. The objective is to support those either homeless or vulnerably housed across Calderdale, the most disadvantaged across our Borough.

Martin Moorman, Head Teacher of Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College is the mastermind behind this event. Martin had this to say: “I believe that collectively we could make a very strong local statement. Most importantly a great local cause benefits significantly for no real effort.”

“Through the most simple of actions, we can make a huge difference to the 180+ clients that SmartMove support in Calderdale. We can’t necessarily solve all their problems, but our communities can tell them that we care and ‘Share some love’ on the day after Valentine’s Day.”

Students will pay £1 for the privilege of no uniform and all proceeds will go to Calderdale SmartMove. We would love it if individuals within businesses and Calderdale would do the same.

Throughout the day on the 15th Feb we will be posting on social media using the hashtag #ShareSomeLove please feel free to join in on this hashtag. A great chance to talk with the local community and share your involvement in the cause.

Sleep Out to Help the Homeless this November

Calderdale Smartmove are again organising  Sleep Out to help the homeless on Friday 10 November 2017.

Anyone who has taken part in this event before will know what a fantastic and humbling experience this is. The last 2 years of this event have been a huge success and we invite you all to take part again.
Everyone is welcome as long as you’re above the age of 13. Take part as a group of friends, family, part of a business team building exercise or just come along on your own and join in.
Over the last 2 years we have had groups from across West Yorkshire take part including Bradford College social work students, MP’s, Councillors, businesses, schools, local council departments and many more.

The event is free to enter, all we ask is you do your best to raise as much as you can through sponsorship which can be done online or the good old fashioned paper method.

This event will involve Calderdale SmartMove staff, supporters and both Halifax Town FC and Halifax RLFC players and staff.

The aim is to sleep in one of the terraces of the Halifax Shay stadium for one night on 10-11 November to heighten awareness of the plight of homeless individuals, especially at this time of year and raise funds through sponsorship.

Leading up to this “Under One Roof” fundraiser,  each participant is being asked to raise £100 through sponsorship, but of course there is no upper limit, and then to spend the night in the famous stands, in the depths of November, with organisers hoping to raise a total of more than £10,000.

For anyone who attended last year, you will know to bring plenty of warm, waterproof clothing and preferably a waterproof sleeping bag or sleeping system if you intend to try to sleep, along with soup or similar in a flask.

No tents!

The event will be ultimately controlled by The Shay Stadium and their staff, followed by Craig George and overseen by their designated first aid representative.

Contact: craig@calderdalesmartmove.org.uk for sponsorship and registration packs, or  please call Craig or Stuart at 01422 361515 or visit the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/calderdalesmartmove or Twitter @caldersmartmove  #SleepOut2017

If you wish to donate to the Charity and help boost awareness, please use the Local Giving site https://localgiving.com/donation/calderdalesmartmove

Smartmove would also like to say a huge thank you to Aquaspersions Limited who will support the event.
