Mixenden youngsters attend Bonfire for MixMatch Winter event

Following on from the MixMatch summer event in July, the MixMatch Winter event proved to be just as successful as eleven young people aged between 14 and 17 from Mixenden were taken to the Firework and Bonfire extravaganza held at Birkenshaw Fire Station by the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

20141107_201153_LLSMixMatch is a scheme that was set up in order to help cut down barriers between young people and uniformed services such as the police and fire service and help reduce youth related anti-social behaviour within the North Halifax area and there is evidence to
suggest that the scheme is working.

The young people who took part in the 20141107_202927_LLSevent were a real credit to themselves, Mixenden and to the service providers who took part in helping to organise the trip.

Special mention must go to Dom Furby, Jemma Thacker and Oli Crosland from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for coming up with the event idea and for allowing us free entry to the event and a special thanks to Ash Green Community Primary School for allowing us to borrow their school mini buses on the night.

The service providers who took part in the event were from Mixenden Initiative, Pennine Housing, Mixenden Youth Centre, Mixenden Outdoor Centre and West Yorkshire Police.
