WOW : Weeks Of Wellbeing from Calderdale Adult Learning

Weeks of Wellbeing, or WOW for short, is a two week long wellbeing event to tie in with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee starting June 6th to June 18th.

The event brings to you taster classes focused around art as a means to improve wellbeing and includes sessions of arts and crafts, recycling basics, first aid skills, a taster in Portuguese, health, wellbeing and mindfulness among others. Some courses have a small charge, some are free.

As part of the WOW event, Calderdale Adult Learning are hosting the
Jubilee Art competition open to all Calderdale residents aged 19 and over.

The competition closes on the 6th June and there are some exciting prizes up for grabs, including high street vouchers and a hamper of premium art supplies.

Platinum Jubilee Art Competition deadline June 6th

To celebrate how art can boost wellbeing, Calderdale Adult Learning are holding an art competition based around the theme of ‘Platinum Jubilee.’

Prizes include art supplies, shopping vouchers and CAL course discounts.

Please email a photograph of your artwork to cal.artcomp@calderdale.gov.uk with your name, postcode and telephone number.

Your Covid story competition for North Halifax extended

As we entered a third lockdown phase, we felt it necessary to extend the competition to include your ongoing views.

The new Competition Deadline is now 28 February 2021.

As part of our Reimagining Communities Project we will be running a free competition over the festive period with some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

Entrants must live in Mixenden, Illingworth or Ovenden including Lee Mount and all you have to do to be in with a chance at winning an art set or a professional photo shoot for your family is get your creative head on and tell us your covid story in one of the following ways;

  • Art – Love to draw? Get out your paints, pencils and create a piece of art that captures your covid story. If drawing isn’t your thing, how about a collage… If it’s art, then it’s worthy of an entry!
  • Photography/videography – Fancy yourself as the next David Bailey or Steven Spielberg? Send us some photos or a video that captures your covid story to be in with the chance of winning a photoshoot for your family –
  • Writing – Share your experience of covid through poetry, a short story or any other form of creative writing.

There are four categories to choose from which are pre-school, primary school, high school and family – All you need to do is let us know which category your entry comes under when you submit to us.

Deadline for entries is Sunday 28th February 2021 – Winners announced on March 2021.

Woolshops Christmas Event

There will be a FREE Christmas Event held in Unit 5 of the Woolshops, Halifax with something for all the family with present wrapping, a kid’s arts competition, face painting and an art exhibition; be sure to pop in and share in the Christmas cheer!

Opening times:

  • Monday 15 to Friday 19 December – 11.30pm to 2pm and 3.30pm to 6pm.
  • Thursday 18 December – Open until 8pm
  • Saturday 20 December – Open All Day – at 1.30pm and 5.30pm there will be LIVE carols and artists talks

Serving FREE mince pies and warm spiced apple juice throughout as well as present wrapping, kids art competition and face painting.
