New Year New Us – Healthy Minds Winter Taster Fayre – January 27th

Healthy Minds Calderdale are excited to invite you in their open day, where they want to introduce you to all their amazing services!

Come chat with our volunteers and staff about what our NEW Warm Space Drop Ins, Volunteer-Led groups and Befriending Service can offer you or the people you work with.Enjoy some warming food and drink and take part in yoga, mindfulness, allotment and arts & crafts taster sessions.

You can also learn about our other fabulous projects, like:

  • Safespace – One-to-one support for anyone in distress (Ages 16+)
  • Link – Intensive support for people ‘stuck’ in a crisis loop
  • & Welfare Rights

Drop in anytime from 10am – 1pm on Friday, 27 January.

Yoga sessions will start at 10:30am and 11:30am; Welfare Rights service information talk at 12:30pm.

The event will be held at our main office: 1 King Street, Halifax, HX1 1SR.

This is a unique opportunity for professionals to gain first-hand insight into our holistic mental health provision, services and activities so that you understand what patients and service users experience when referred to Healthy Minds. 

In particular, you can learn about:

  • Our new, volunteer-led Peer Support programme

  • Warm space drop-ins

  • Like Minds befriending service

  • Safespace – One-to-one support for anyone in distress (Ages 16+)

Network and Learn with FREE Gardening Sessions

If you’re interested in allotment growing and would like to join a group where you can learn to plan your plot and more about growing your own fruit and veg then why not go along and get involved in the following practical sessions.

Wednesday 23 March – 1pm to 4pm
First meeting and Seed Swap (Take your spare seeds to swap)

Wednesday 20 April – 1pm to 4pm
Plot planning and Seed Sowing

Both sessions will be held at The Outback, Jubilee Children’s Centre, Lightowler Road, HX1 5NB – For information call 07929 291249

New Allotment Group with Healthy Minds

Healthy Minds now have a full size plot at the Pye Nest Allotment in Sowerby Bridge, anyone can attend who has an interest in: –

  • Improving and maintaining their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing
  • Meeting new people in a friendly and safe environment
  • Learning more about the benefits of growing (and eating) a variety of fruit, vegetables and herbs

The group meet at the site every Monday 1pm to 3pm – Directions

No previous allotment experience or knowledge is needed, just come along and see what there is to get involved in. Some of the tasks might include:-

  • Planting
  • General maintenance of the site
  • Bed/plot design
  • Contribute ideas for seasonal crops
  • Or you could become a volunteer

Dig It programme for Calderdale gardeners

A series of free outdoor gardening activities are being offered to people living in Calderdale.

The Dig It programme is run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and aims to help people get more active through gardening.

Based at the Trust’s own plot at the Pellon Allotments the sessions give local people the opportunity to get active outdoors, improve their diet and meet new people.

The sessions on offer include:

  • Gardening for wellbeing – Mondays (morning or afternoon sessions available)
    One off session on allotment growing and provides a free start up home gardening kit
  • Growing healthy – Tuesdays, 1pm to 3pm (every week starting 17 March)
    Topics include growing fruit, vegetables and herbs and you can even take home your own share of the produce
  • Get growing – 4 week course with dates throughout April, May, June and July
    Aimed at beginners and teaches the basics of growing your own fruit and vegetables
