Illingworth Moor Boys Brigade 50th Anniversary Event

It is 50 years since 2nd Halifax Boys’ Brigade Company was founded at Illingworth Moor Methodist Church in 1968.

To celebrate this, an anniversary event will be held on Saturday 29 June, 6:00pm at Illingworth Moor Methodist Church. There are plans for a display of memorabilia.  Around 8 pm there will be a free pie and peas/pizza supper.

If you know of any former members of the company – Anchor Boys, Junior Section, Company Section or Staff, please get in touch.

If anyone has any old photographs or video clips they are willing to loan for the event do get in touch on the number below.

Hair Styling Workshop at Holmfield Mill

There will be a Hair Styling Workshop at Holmfield Mill, Holdsworth Road, Holmfield HX3 6SN over 4 weeks starting Tuesday 5 March, 12:30pm-2:30pm.

A 4 week adult only course (limited crèche available) where you will learn how to use hair products correctly, learn different plaiting techniques and how to put hair up into different styles for weddings or other special occasions.

There are a limited number of places available to book your place on the Sure Start Children’s Centres website.

Paediatric First Aid Course at Illingworth Community Children’s Centre

There will be a Paediatric First Aid Course at Illingworth Community Children’s Centre over 4 weeks starting Monday 4 March, 6:00pm-9:00pm.

4 weeks learning will lead to a Level 3 award in Paediatric First Aid, learners will gain the knowledge in dealing with first aid situations for example choking, CPR and shock.  Learners must attend the full 12 hours to gain the accreditation.

Faith and the Environment Talks at Holy Nativity Church

Calderdale Interfaith Council are holding a talk on Thursday 7 March, 10:00am—12:00pm at Holy Nativity Church, Sunnybank Road, Mixenden, Halifax HX2 8RX.

The theme will be Faith and the Environment and there will be talks from faith representatives about how their faith relates to the environment.

Riding for the Disabled Coffee Morning

During half term, the Calderdale Riding for the Disabled Group will be holding a coffee morning on Friday 22 February, 10:30am-12:00pm at Meadow View Stables, Cow Hill Gate Lane, Ogden HX2 9PB.

Calderdale RDA are looking for volunteers from spring in the role of sidewalkers and leaders so this would give you a chance to meet the team and look around.

Volunteer Role Description – Side Walkers and Leaders

Purpose of Role: To support the session coach and encourage the participants to have a safe and enjoyable time.

Main Activities/Tasks: Help preparing for sessions by gathering equipment, grooming kits and tack Be able to help and encourage the children whilst grooming, tacking up. Communicate the coaches’ instructions to the child in words and demonstration.

Qualities and Skills: You will need to be caring, confident, capable and use common sense.
Be reasonably fit and able to work as a team. Be able to take instructions and respond straight away.

Any experience with horses or in a caring role with people will be useful but not essential. A kind, empathetic nature with a desire to be involved is great.

Allergies or fear of horses will be a barrier to this role

Training Provision: Meet, greet and familiarisation app. 2 hours
Half hour before start of each session

Availability needed: The group runs Spring to Autumn. The exact days for 2019 tbc
