  1. Appeal: Fatal Road Traffic Collision, Halifax – Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision in Halifax on Wednesday (10 August) night. The incident happened at 8pm on Burnley Road, Luddenden Foot and involved a Peugeot 106 and a Volkswagen Passat. For more details please click here.

    Drunken Arrests – 29 Jul 11

    Four males were arrested after anti-social behaviour was reported in the Cousin Lane area of Ovenden.
    An 18 year old man has been charged with being drunk and disorderly and another two – aged 18 and 17 – have received fixed penalty notices.
    A 17 year old was also arrested for failing to comply with a direction to leave notice and subsequently received a reprimand.

  3. Mixenden
    Cannabis Arrest – A 20 yr old man has been arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis after officers searched a house in Clough Lane, Mixenden, last week. Officers seized hydroponics equipment from the property and suspected cannabis plants. The man has been bailed pending further inquiries.

  4. North and East NPT on the Road to Tackle Crime

    A joint operation involving officers from Halifax North and East NPT and West Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing unit has seen officers arresting people believed to have been using motor vehicles to commit crime.

    Last Tuesday, (26 July), officers on patrol in the Illingworth area of Halifax arrested two men, aged 37 and 20, for possession of drugs with intent to supply, after they stopped a vehicle in Cragg Lane, Wheatley. Officers recovered suspected class A drugs (heroin & crack cocaine), along with cash and a firearm. The vehicle was also seized by police. The men have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

    On Thursday (28 July), following a tip off by a member of the public, North and East officers recovered two stolen quad bikes after searching wasteland at the back of Sunnybank Road, Mixenden. The quads which have been recovered for forensic examination are believed to have been stolen during burglaries in the Hebden Bridge and Queensbury areas. While the bikes were being recovered a police vehicle was damaged and officers are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them.

    A day later, (Friday, 29 July), Roads Policing Officers on patrol in the Furness Drive area of Illingworth stopped a vehicle and arrested a 44 year old man on suspicion of the supply of drugs. The driver was found to have no insurance for the vehicle and it was seized. Following a subsequent search of a property, NPT officers recovered hydroponics equipment and 32 suspected cannabis plants. The man has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

    On the same day, NPT officers who were on patrol in the Brackenbed area of Halifax stopped a man riding a motorcycle. The rider was already subject of a Section 59 notice and following recent reports of anti-social use, the motorcycle was seized.

  5. Illingworth
    Drugs Arrests
    – On 18th May 2011 a drugs warrant was executed at an address at South Selby, Halifax. Two local males, aged 52 years and 20 years, were arrested for suspicion of Possession with intent to supply drugs. A quantity of drugs, believed to be heroin and cocaine, were seized. Both males have been released on Police bailed pending forensic examination of the drugs.

    Disorder Arrest – After a recent disorder incident in the Pellon area Officers have arrested a local male for the offence. He has been charged with a racially aggravated offence under the Public Order Act and bailed to appear at court.

  8. Ovenden

    Nuisance Bikers – A number of calls have been received in relation to nuisance bikes in the Lee Mount, Bracewell and Denfield areas to the old Shroggs tip.
    Officers attended and 6 youths were stopped and spoken and advised re their behaviour. Sgt Haigh is liaising with the Council in relation to this issue.

  9. Northowram & Shelf

    Parking Patrol – PCSO Gouldsborough attended St Josephs C of E School on Wednesday 13th April and also on Thursday 14th April in company with Parking Services after receiving complaints of parents parking inappropriately. No tickets were issued and one parent was advised.

    Stone Thefts – Local residents from the Hough area of Northowram have been reporting a steady increase in paving stone theft from their street. Please be vigilant whilst out and about and report any suspicious vehicles in that area. Residents believe the vehicle is an 04 plate Vauxhall/Renault van. Calderdale Council are very much aware of the problem and are looking for ways to stop the thefts occurring.

    Park Patrols – Local parks were patrolled by officers on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th April – small amounts of alcohol were seized from a small group of youths.
    On Sunday 17th April, local officers patrolled Shibden Park. Groups of youths were made to clean up their litter and pour away their alcohol. Shibden Park operate a NO ALCOHOL ZONE which means no alcohol should be consumed within the park.
    The Shibden Rangers can also fine members of the public for leaving their litter behind and for letting their dog foul.

  10. Mixenden
    Nuisance Bikers – On 23rd April local Officers were called to a report of an off road motorbike riding on the bowling green area off Woodbrook Road, Mixenden. Officers stopped the bike and the 2 local youths who were riding it were spoken to. They were both issued with section 59 warnings which means that should they be caught using any vehicle again in an anti-social manner then the vehicle will be seized from them.

    Drugs Arrest – Officers were on patrol on Mixenden Road, Halifax when they observed what appeared to be a drugs deal take place. Two males were stop/searched and one of them was found to be in possession of a quantity of what is believed to be a class A controlled drug. The male was arrested and has been bailed pending forensic testing.

  11. Mixenden
    Seized Bike – After reports of an off road bike being ridden on the footpath in the area of Hebble Brook officers attended and spoke with the 14 year old rider.
    The bike was not registered for use on a road and was uninsured so was seized by the officers. The 14 year old rider was then taken home and advised in front of his parents.

  12. Halifax Sergeant In New Role – 8 Apr 11
    A new Sergeant has taken the reins at the Halifax North and East Neighbourhood Policing Team.
    Sgt Dionne Stratford steps into the shoes of the former Sergeant, Damon Walker, who has moved into a role in the Calderdale Suspect Management Unit.
    Sgt Stratford has been a Police Officer for nearly 15 years and came to Calderdale division as a response officer when she was promoted to Sgt four years ago.
    She is no stranger to Neighbourhood Policing, having recently worked on Central Halifax NPT for just over a year.
    Speaking about her latest role, Sgt Stratford says one of her main aims is to have a real impact on anti-social behaviour and local priorities set by the local community; she holds responsibility for the Warley Ward, including Pellon, as well as Northowram and Shelf.

    Robbery Arrest – 1 Apr 11

    A 14 year old male has been arrested for Robbery after a pedal cycle was stolen from another youth on Clough Lane. He has been released on Police bail pending enquiries

  14. Illingworth
    Drugs Arrest – 1 Apr 11
    Local Officers attended at an address on Heathy Lane after receiving information regarding a male possibly growing Cannabis at his home address. They found that there were in fact 11 Cannabis plants being grown in a room there so the male was arrested for Production of a Class B drug. The 27 year old male received a Police Caution for the offence.

  15. Northowram & Shelf – update 30 Mar 2011
    Burglary remains a local priority and Officers are continuing with regular patrols in the area. Please make sure you are locking your doors at night and leaving lights on when you go out or go to bed. This gives the appearance that someone is either in or awake in your property. Don’t become a target.

    Burglar Down A Well – In the early hours of Sunday 28th March a male was disturbed by neighbours breaking into a house on Bell Street in the Claremount area. He made good his escape by jumping over a wall behind St Thomas’s Church and subsequently fell down a 30ft well and was trapped for 2 1/2 hours before he was rescued by emergency services. The 21 year old male from the Boothtown area was then taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for treatment to his injuries. Further enquires are ongoing by Police into the incident.
    Youth Haunts – On Saturday 26th March, local officers checked all the usual haunts for local youths including; Shelf Moor Park, Northowram Recreation Ground, Northowram Doctors Surgery, Shibden Park and St Matthews Church. A small group of youths were spoken to at St Matthews Church but no alcohol was seized.
    Northowram Recreation Ground – On Friday 25th March, local officers attended Northowram Recreation Ground and engaged with a small group of local youths. A small amount of alcohol was seized from one local male and another was given a verbal warning after receiving information that he may be supplying minors with alcohol.
    Shelf Moor Park – On Friday 25th March, local officers attended Shelf Moor Park and engaged with over 50 local youths hanging about in the area. No alcohol was found and the youths were left to enjoy themselves.
    Inspector Visits Schools – The new Inspector for North & East Halifax NPT, Stuart Spencer visited local schools in Northowram and Shelf to introduce himself to the pupils and teachers. Schools visited included St Michaels and All Angels School, Shelf Junior & Infant School and Salterlee Primary School in Shibden.
    Parking at Schools remains a local priority and Officers are still paying attention to the area. No further tickets have been issued recently.

    School Checks – PCSO James Lawton has been on patrol this week with a Civilian Enforcement Officer around various school premises. They have been looking into safety issues around the schools along with parking issues. These patrols will be continuing over the coming weeks.

    Theft From Motor Vehicle Arrest – A 17 year old male has been arrested for theft from motor vehicle that occurred on Stanningley Road, Mixenden. He was interviewed and charged with handling stolen goods x 3 and remanded to appear at court.

    Drugs Charge – Update from drugs warrant that was executed on 6th January 2011 at an address in Mixenden. A 26 year old male returned on bail and was charged with possession of class B (Amphetamine) drug. He has been bailed to appear at court.

    Northowram & Shelf
    PACT Meeting Update – At the recent PACT meeting it was decided that the local priorities would remain the same:-
    •To reduce burglary dwellings by continuation of pro-active patrols between 2300 & 0700 hrs each day (Halifax Road).
    •To reduce parking problems/inconsiderate road use around Northowram Primary School, Lydgate and Shelf Primary School between 0815 – 0900 hrs and 1500 – 1600 hrs.
    Regular patrols will continue to monitor them.

    Drugs Charge – Update from drugs warrant that was executed on 25th November 2010. A 26 year old male has returned on bail and was charged with production of a class B drug (Cannabis). He has been bailed to appear at court.

    PACT Meeting Update – At the recent PACT meeting it was decided that the local priorities would remain the same:-
    •To reduce anti social behaviour involving drug dealing and youth nuisance on Albert Road daily from 1700 – 0000 hrs.
    •To reduce anti social behaviour involving drug dealing and alcohol abuse outside McColls Off Licence, Highroad Well Lane, Halifax daily from 1800 – 2300 hrs.
    •To reduce mobile drug dealing on Stocks Lane and Cliff Hill Lane daily between 1600 – 2000 hrs.
    Regular patrols will continue in line with these priorities.

    Dangerous Driving, Damage And Drugs Charge – After an incident that occurred in January 2011 in the Pellon area a 26 year old male has returned on bail and was charged with possession of Class B x 3, Damage to Motor Vehicle and Dangerous Driving. He has been bailed to appear at court.
