Safer Streets Around Schools progress update

This week Neighbourhood community wardens, Jonny and Zameer have been at St. Mary’s Primary and Holy Trinity Primary schools in Halifax providing the blocking off of the road on Swires Road and traffic management around both schools at the start and end of the school day.
This was in keeping with Calderdale Council’s plan to provide a safer and healthier environment around schools to encourage more young people to be active by walking and cycling to school and having a traffic free and safe environment to do so.

The wardens worked alongside staff from both schools ensuring social distancing was observed safely and engaged with parents and carers.

Motorists observed the road signs respectfully and there was some very positive comments from staff, parents and members of the public regarding how successful the temporary road closures at the start and end of the school day have been to assist with social distancing and providing a safe environment for the children.
