A great time to read – with Calderdale Libraries!

With the lockdown and movement restrictions in place, many have lost access to the Library, which is a vibrant place to pursue interests, discover something new or simply enjoy the atmosphere.

You still can!

With a wealth of online publications and a home delivery service for the more vulnerable members, it has never been easier.

Visit Calderdale Libraries online – https://www.calderdale.gov.uk/v2/residents/leisure-and-culture/libraries

  • Read books, comics, magazines or newspaper archives online
  • Sign for home delivery service – available to vulnerable individuals
  • FindMyPast: Free during the coronavirus lockdown
  • Study for your Driving Theory test online
  • And much more!

So what are you waiting for? Grab a nice cuppa, find your favourite spot and start reading!

The following bulletin was released for the Calderdale Libraries:

Whilst people can’t go out to the library now, that hasn’t stopped them reading! We have had 61 new members join the library and 25 more of our vulnerable customers have signed up for our home delivery service.

We have massively increased our digital range and there have been 928 Digital downloads (e-books, eaudio books, e-magazines and comics via RB digital) already during April. Last year was a record year with 26,039 Digital items downloaded. We expect to beat that easily this year!

We have been promoting the Digital Reference Library and particular components of it via various channels and once the technicalities are (very soon) ironed out, we will be offering additional free remote access to Ancestry and Find My Past.

We are working on a short local history film, linking a local area with its past and the resources (normally) available through libraries. If this works well, we will work on more.

From the children’s, young peoples’ and families point of view, our main engagement is through Calderdale Libraries social media, with lots of links to all the sites which are providing great content for children and families. We are getting geared up to post film of activities which can be done at home and will be recording some Rhymetime songs for families and little ones to join in with at home.
