Men United, a local group for older gentlemen got together for an enjoyable visit to Bankfield Museum on Wednesday 27 November 2019.
The group were given a guided tour and a talk on Calderdale at War between 1939 to 1945 where they heard how Calderdale was directly affected with many workers taking on Civil Defence and Home Guard duties.
They were also told how a German V1 Flying Bomb (commonly known as ‘Doodlebugs’) landed in a field at Little Tooting Farm, Hubberton, Sowerby and extensive blast damage made a farmhouse uninhabitable for some time whilst breaking windows a mile away.
Following the talk, the gents split up into smaller groups and headed off to check out the many other exhibitions on display at the museum.
To end the morning the group met back up on the ground floor for hot drinks, snacks and a bit of chat among themselves.
Men United meet every Wednesday morning 10am to 12noon at Ovenden Park, Halifax RUFC Clubhouse where they enjoy group discussions, games and much more. £2 per session (First one FREE)
The group started with just a handful of members and having gathered momentum over the last couple of years, now sees anywhere between 15 to 25 gents coming through the doors every week.
