Junior Wardens from Dean Field Community Primary School learnt a very valuable thought provoking and interesting life lesson on Tuesday 6 November 2018. Fire House is a fantastic visual tool used and demonstrated by Andy Greenwood West Yorkshire Fire Prevention Officer who showed the Junior Wardens the impact of danger within your home.
Andy Greenwood discussed how to help alleviate those dangers by taking extra care and attention by discussing fire safety and offering advice to eliminate or reduce the risk of a fire happening in their home. Also discussed was a practical fire escape plan to make sure that if the worst does happen, occupants can escape safely with their families.
Andy Greenwood explained to the Wardens about the services that the West Yorkshire Fire Service offer including the Safe and Well visits to members of the public on those who are most at risk of fire.
Andy explained that during a Safe and Well visit, West Yorkshire Fire Service will accompany you to assess fire safety in every room in your property, identify and make you aware of the potential fire risks in your home, make sure you know what to do in order to reduce or prevent these risks and discuss with you, a bed-time routine that will help keep you safe at night. They will help you put together an escape plan in case a fire breaks out in the future and ensure you have a working smoke alarm, and ensure you know how to test and maintain it
On discussion with the Junior Wardens afterwards we received the following quotes;
“We learnt not to keep electrical items plugged in overnight as this is the main cause of fires in the home”
“It is very important to have smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors fitted into your home”
