Pitch Improvement Project at Illingworth Sports and Social Club and Tar Hill

Works are planned to start shortly to improve sports pitches at Illingworth Sports and Social Club and Tar Hill shown hatched on the plan below.

The Council, working in partnership with Crossley Juniors AFC and Illingworth RLFC, have been successful in receiving funding from Sport England and The Football Foundation for the £158,000 project. The underlying geology of the site does not permit horizontal pitches to be created however the finished pitches will be smooth with a high quality playing surface which will benefit the hundreds of local young people who play for the clubs.

Large machinery is expected to be on site for around three weeks levelling and reseeding the pitches which may cause some short term disruption to local residents for which Calderdale Council apologises.

The work also includes improving the access from Whitehill Road to the pitch at Tar Hill and creating a small car park at the site. On completion of these works there will be a twelve months maintenance period for the grass to establish before the pitches can be used.

We know that both these site are popular with local people however we are asking that people keep off the reseeded areas in the weeks following the work to enable the grass to establish. Signs will be posted at entrances as a reminder. Thank you in anticipation for your help with this.
