Canoeing at Mixenden Activity Centre

Tuesday’s FREE ACTIVITY at Mixenden Activity Centre was canoeing and MAC is grateful to Yorkshire Water for allowing this activity on Mixenden Reservoir. The water bailiffs from Yorkshire Water are responsible for controlling any activities on the reservoir including preventing unauthorised fishing, ensuring that people remain safe by stopping swimming etc.

Tom Jennings, Specialist Tutor at the Centre,  took a group of 6 local young people out on the reservoir, behind the centre, for a canoeing lesson.

The group were absolutely brilliant. Within minutes Tom had taught them how to paddle a canoe, and they were soon canoeing across the reservoir on their own, whilst Tom followed separately.

To get them used to the cold water, and to give them confidence, Tom also taught them to jump off the side of the canoe into the water.

The centre provides FREE activities for local children during the school holidays on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Other activities include, rock climbing, archery, mountain biking and camp craft

If you would like further details of these free activity days, please contact Heather Stout at The Mixenden Initiative on 01422 255402 – booking is essential as places are limited.
