Phoenix FM Community Station Licence Renewed

OFCOM has awarded another 5 years licence to Phoenix 96.7 FM, Calderdale’s only full time community radio station. In December this year the station will have been broadcasting for 10 years.
Over this time the station has reached a monthly audience of over 80,000 listeners with an additional 3.2K listening via the Tune In Radio App. The Online broadcast has also reached audiences as far away as the USA, Canada, Switzerland and China.
Over the past 10 years the station has broadcast live from several venues around Calderdale including the Halifax Minster, The Piece Hall, The Victoria Theatre, Hebden Bridge Market Square, Halifax Gala as well as presenting events such as the Hebden Bridge Duck Race and Neighbours Day.
The station has gained a strong reputation for supporting people through our training programmes; linking diverse communities and working with volunteers of all ages and abilities. We have also promoted local charities, businesses, sports clubs and musicians, as well as offering placements to local and regional schools, colleges and Universities.
More recently we have developed a Youth Show which involves working with young people in care, care leavers and young carers. We also work with people with Parkinson’s and older people to support those showing early signs of Dementia, as well as combating isolation by meeting with people and recording their memories of growing up in Calderdale. Our aim is to create an audio history of Calderdale, told through the voices of people who have lived and worked here.
Our new chapter begins with a move to Fletcher’s Mill, Dean Clough where, from our new studios, we will continue to serve the people of Calderdale.
