Our Communities Award 2017: Contribution to Children and Young People – WINNER ANNOUNCED!

WINNER: Yasar Mohammed

Yasar Mohammed is an individual who has contributed his time and effort enormously to charity.

He is the person behind the Halifax Academy’s Orphans’ Project and it is down to his effort and encouragement that the pupils have raised over £21,000 towards helping fund orphanages in Pakistan – an astonishing sum given the relatively short time frame.

Yasar has supported pupils to organise charity car washes, tea parties, street collections and community Iftars. In October 2016 he accompanied over 136 climbers to ascend Mount Snowden, the highest mountain in Wales, with all but 6 making it to the top.

He recently visited Pakistan where he saw the impact of the funding first hand and has been helping with the project on the ground.
