Superfast West Yorkshire and York fibre broadband rollout is well underway, the second phase is on target to make superfast broadband speeds of >24 Megabit per second (Mbps) and above available to 26,905 homes and businesses, including 200 premises in Illingworth by the end of the programme in June 2018.
The overall objective for the Superfast West Yorkshire and York broadband programme is to ensure that more residents and businesses can access fibre optic broadband and make use of faster speeds and a reliable internet connection.
The arrival of faster broadband in Illingworth will bring many benefits. Fibre broadband in the home means everyone in the family can do their own thing online, all at the same time, whether it’s downloading music in minutes or watching catch-up TV; streaming HD movies in minutes, or posting photos and videos to social networking sites in seconds.
Superfast broadband also has the potential to significantly improve business performance. The benefits for businesses include faster file and data transfers, better access to cloud computing services and software, more sophisticated web-based contact with customers and support for more flexible working.
The upgrade will not happen automatically so in order to take advantage of the higher speeds, residents and businesses should contact their broadband service provider or visit www.get-fibre.co.uk to see if their location is included in the rollout.
