Junior Wardens build bird boxes and feeds for National Bird Week

9Moorside Junior Wardens had a lesson in woodwork to build bird boxes and feeds as part of National Bird Week.

The wardens have each made a bird box and feeder which will be put up in Beechwood Park where the habitat of the birds will be monitored throughout the year with help from PCSO Katie Leeman West Yorkshire Police , CMBC Community Warden Ced Ockley ,Dave Pickard and CMBC North Halifax Parks Area Manger Pete Oddy and Paul Tetley.

Karen Scanlon from the Ovenden Initiative said

“This is a fantastic project that was sponsored by the Police Mutual Funds which has allowed the Junior Wardens to have a valuable input to contribute to bird conservation by creating a safe place for the North Halifax Wildlife for National Nest Box Week which takes place every year from 14-21 February, and after more than 19 years it is now an established part of the ornithological calendar.”

4NNBW aims to encourage everyone to put up nest boxes in their local area in order to promote and enhance biodiversity and conservation of our breeding birds and wildlife.

Look out for the boxes and habitat in Beechwood Park!
