Park & Warley Our Communities Award 2016: Outstanding Individual Award – WINNER ANNOUNCED!

WINNER: Michael Cockerill

Michael has been a willing volunteer, working from Christ Church Mount Pellon for over 30 years.

He’s recently turned 70 years old and has been an oustanding and upright pillar of the community for many years.

Michael is currently involved with volunteering for The Halifax Long March Committee which organises a tradional fundraising walk and he also volunteers as a youth leader for teenage group SharX, skippers the ‘Spirit of Guiding’ narrow boat for all generations run by the Girl Guides and he is an active member of the church PCC as a church warden.

He also works with an International group which caters for refugees and asylum seekers and some of their basic human needs via Christ Church and St Augustines.

As a craftsman and retired joiner Michael helps renovate and refurbish Christ Church (a grade 2 * listed building) and designs and builds sets for Halifax Playhouse productions as well as materials for charity gala wagons to go on the annual parade.
