Outstanding Individual Award
WINNER: Nageena Haroon
This year’s winner is a person who speaks her mind and is not afraid to address difficult or controversial issues. She is an active campaigner who seeks to reach out and better relationships between all communities in the area.
Nageena has been involved with local coordinating group, Park Ward Stakeholders since the EDL national demonstration. Prior to this she was a volunteer with Healthy Towns helping children and young people learn to cook healthy food.
Nageena is now involved as a volunteer in a women’s group which aims to address child sexual exploitation and she has also been an active and vocal campaigner to raise awareness of this issue in Park ward – not easy and not without controversy, she always speaks her mind and is not afraid to challenge the status quo.
She works with lots of different organisations and agencies including the Police to help them get a better understanding of the local community and build better relationships and she is a massive advocate of all things that reach across communities, bringing together eastern European and Asian, as well as championing bringing white and Asian women together to address child sexual exploitation.
Nageena was also an active member of the Halifax Academy Parents group and has always worked hard in the community to address difficult and controversial issues – currently she is involved in a group looking at on line grooming, and stopping girls going to Syria.
