Thursday 15 January 2015 from 9.30am to 12pm
At Threeways Centre, 93 Nursery Lane, Ovenden, HX3 5SW
The Staying Well Ageing Better project seeks to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for older people in the community who are lonely or isolated.
We know that loneliness and social isolation can have serious health impacts. It has been estimated that lonely people have a 64% increased chance of developing clinical dementia. Lacking social connections is as damaging to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day
But there’s also lots of evidence that shows that friendships and taking part in social activity reduces the risk of developing certain diseases, and can help individuals to recover when they fall ill.
Staying Well Ageing Better is a project that recognises that that the people living and working in our local communities are the best placed to know what is already available and where we might need to focus services in the future.
A steering group made up of local people and organisations will oversee the project in North Halifax, and will be able to commission new services and activities. This could mean your group! We think that together we can make a real difference for older people in North Halifax. Why not join us at Threeways on Thursday 15 January to see how you can get involved.
Refreshments and signing in from 9.30am.
