Park & Warley Our Communities Award: Contribution to Safer Cleaner Greener Environment – WINNER ANNOUNCED!

Contribution to a Safer Cleaner Greener Environment award sponsored by Pennine Housing 2000

WINNER: Mount Tabor Community Caring Association

The Mount Tabor Community Caring Association plant and maintain the daffodils which adorn every road leading into the village. Over the last five years volunteers have planted in all around 4000 bulbs! Their hard work certainly cheers up residents and travellers through the Mount Tabor area.

“What a delight it is to watch the leaves pushing up through the grass on the verges, especially last winter when everywhere was covered with snow, then to see the lovely yellow of the flowers dancing in the breeze”.

The Association also runs lots of events and activities including an annual over 60s trip and ladies group outings over the summer.

The annual Gala held every September is a celebration of all the village has to offer, featuring local stalls and local school children to help create the programme of activities.

Each Christmas they provide a Christmas tree for the village and hold a Christmas dinner for the over 60s as they believe it raises community spirit and provides an opportunity for residents to meet socially.

The Committee meets every six weeks to talk about issues affecting the village and raise them with local councillors and services.

Above all the Mount Tabor Community Caring Association is about caring: Caring for the community and the people who live in it, and caring for the local environment, so that everyone can enjoy it.

The members of the Association are mainly retired residents of the village but they welcome younger members too. If you would like to get involved please contact Jane Hatton on 01422 368519 or email bjhatton@hotmail.co.uk
